Ecuador sack coach Felix Sanchez after agonising Copa America exit

Ecuador has decided to part ways with head coach Felix Sanchez (48) following their defeat in the Copa America quarter-finals against Argentina, as announced by the country's football federation (FEF).
Despite reaching the quarter-finals for the third time in the last four editions, Ecuador was eliminated by the defending champions in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Sanchez, who previously led Qatar to their first Asian Cup victory in 2019, had signed a four-year contract in March of last year.
The FEF expressed their gratitude towards Felix and his coaching staff for their dedication and professionalism, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Following the match, the coach mentioned that despite their exit from the Copa America, he is looking ahead to the World Cup qualifiers in September, where Ecuador currently holds the fifth position in the standings. He refrained from discussing his future plans.
"We were able to progress from the group stage to the knockout rounds. I have commended the players, even though we did not advance further," he stated to the press.
"I believe they deserve recognition, that is my perspective. I am confident that in the next edition of this tournament, we will arrive with a more seasoned team.
"These players are quite young. Perhaps the outcomes were not in our favor, but I am certain that we must have faith in this group of players."
