Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy ruled out of AFCON after dislocating shoulder

Mohamed El Shenawy (34), the goalkeeper, has joined the growing list of Egyptian players who have been ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations due to an injury sustained on Monday.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced that the first-choice goalkeeper has been ruled out of the remaining matches in the Africa Cup of Nations. This decision comes after the keeper dislocated his shoulder during Egypt's 2-2 draw with Cape Verde on Monday.
El Shenawy, the Al Ahly keeper, sustained the injury during stoppage time when he weakly parried a cross, leading to Cape Verde's late equalizer.
Mohamed Abou-Gabal replaced him in the match. Notably, Abou-Gabal had previously stepped in for El Shenawy two years ago in a penalty shootout win over Ivory Coast. Abou-Gabal played a crucial role as Egypt reached the final but ultimately lost to Senegal in a penalty shootout.
The absence of El Shenawy from the squad reflects a series of unfortunate injuries for Egypt, as Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah recently suffered a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out for the rest of the tournament.
Salah will return to Liverpool for further treatment, with the hope of making a speedy recovery to be available for both club and country.
Egypt finished second in Group B, securing three points from three consecutive 2-2 draws. This setback will undoubtedly challenge the team as they navigate the remaining matches in the tournament.
