Emerse Fae confirmed as Côte d'Ivoire coach after AFCON victory

Emerse Fae, who led Ivory Coast to victory in the Africa Cup of Nations this month, has officially been appointed as the team's coach by the federation's president Idriss Diallo.
During the presentation of the CAN trophy to a sponsor in Abidjan, Mr Diallo announced that Emerse, who had been serving as the interim coach, has now been officially appointed as the head coach. However, the length of his contract was not disclosed.
Fae took charge of the Ivorian national team during the Africa Cup of Nations after a disappointing performance in the first round.
Under the guidance of French coach Jean-Louis Gasset, the team won their opening match against Guinea-Bissau but suffered defeats against Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
Despite this, the Ivorians managed to qualify for the Round of 16 due to favorable results in other groups.
Following the decision to dismiss Mr Gasset, Fae, one of his assistants, was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team.
Alongside former Ivorian international Guy Demel, Fae successfully rejuvenated the team, culminating in their victory in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations on February 11th against Nigeria.
They achieved this by defeating Senegal on penalties, overcoming Mali on aggregate, and securing a 1-0 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
