Empoli 1-0 Napoli: Hosts move clear of relegation zone after impressive victory over Partenopei

Empoli, who are currently struggling in Serie A, extended their lead over the relegation zone to four points following a 1-0 triumph against Napoli. This victory marked the first instance this season where Davide Nicola's team secured back-to-back home wins in the league.
Alberto Cerri gave the relegation-threatened hosts a flying start by scoring, proving his goal one week prior should have stood. Rising high to head in a cross from Emmanuel Gyasi, Cerri's goal extended Napoli’s goal drought to 12 Serie A matches.
Regrettably, the Empoli forward's joy was short-lived as he had to leave the match in the 20th minute due to an injury.
Cerri’s replacement, M'Baye Niang, played a crucial role in creating a chance for Empoli, combining well with Nicolo Cambiaghi whose shot hit the post.
Empoli managed to keep Napoli at bay and go into halftime leading for just the fourth time in Serie A home games this season.
Inspired by their fans, Empoli continued to resist Napoli’s attacks in the second half. However, Napoli began to push harder, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hitting a shot over the crossbar.
Although Napoli was more aggressive in the second half, they couldn't find an equalizer as Empoli secured a clean sheet after nine games.
Losing 1-0 to Empoli for the second time this season, Napoli now sits in eighth place, having won only one of their past seven games across all competitions.
