England 0-0 Slovenia: Three Lions stumble over finish line with boring goalless draw, Slovenia into last 16

England clinched the top spot in Group C, although it came at the expense of an entertaining match, resulting in a goalless draw against Slovenia. This extended their unbeaten head-to-head streak to seven matches.
Despite lackluster performances in their previous two Group C games, England had already secured their spot in the knockout stage before tonight's match. However, they needed to use this game as an opportunity to regain their momentum.
The initial stages of the match indicated that England might deliver another subpar performance, with numerous misplaced passes. It took them 20 minutes to find their rhythm, and when they did, they believed they had scored the opening goal.
A fluid attacking move showcased England's potential, but unfortunately, Bukayo Saka's goal was disallowed due to an offside call. Gareth Southgate's team struggled to create many scoring opportunities, but a dangerous cross from Kieran Trippier just before halftime almost resulted in a breakthrough, narrowly missed by Harry Kane's desperate slide at the far post.
Realizing that his tactics were not yielding the desired results, Southgate made a substitution at halftime, bringing on Kobbie Mainoo in place of Conor Gallagher. However, this change did not significantly impact the game, and even when Cole Palmer made his tournament debut 20 minutes before the end, England continued to face difficulties.
Fortunately for England, Slovenia also struggled to make an impact in the attacking third. Additionally, with Denmark's match also deadlocked in the final minutes, the situation was not entirely bleak.
However, England's inability to take the lead meant that the match ended in a nervy fashion. Luckily for the Three Lions, the tense conclusion worked in their favor, securing them first place in Group C. As a result, they will face a third-placed team in the last-16 tie on Sunday evening.
Slovenia will also benefit from the goalless draw, as it secures their spot in the knockout stage as one of the top third-placed teams.
