Enugu Rangers attacked in Jos after match with Plateau United

Enugu Rangers FC faced a shocking post-match attack after their Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 11 game against Plateau United ended in a 0-0 draw. Suspected Plateau United fans reportedly ambushed the Rangers’ team bus, injuring several coaches and players, with viral footage showing some team members bleeding.

Amobi Ezeaku, General Manager of Enugu Rangers, condemned the incident, calling it "unwarranted," and confirmed the club has filed a petition to ensure justice is served. He reassured supporters that Rangers will uphold its integrity and honor, with players and coaches safely returning to Enugu.

Felix Ifeanyi, an official of Enugu Rangers, disclosed that the team’s bus was damaged, and several players were physically assaulted, with damages estimated to be in the millions. Photographs obtained by local media show one player with visible injuries, intensifying calls for action.

Enugu Rangers’ management promptly filed a petition with the relevant authorities, calling for a thorough investigation and accountability for the attack. “We will not rest until justice is served,” the club stated.

In response, Plateau United issued a separate statement claiming the incident occurred outside stadium premises and denying any direct involvement. Plateau United's General Manager, Habila Hosea Mutla, emphasized the club’s commitment to maintaining peace and condemned all forms of hooliganism.

The attack has prompted renewed scrutiny of security measures for away teams in the NPFL, highlighting the need for enhanced safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
