Equatorial Guinea suffer AFCON heartbreak as Guinea reach quarter-finals with last minute winner

Guinea advanced to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by securing a 1-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea in a thrilling match. With an incredible display of skill and determination, Guinea managed to secure their spot in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2015, scoring the winning goal with just seconds remaining on the clock.

The first half of the match was uneventful, with both teams failing to create any scoring opportunities. Guinea missed a chance to take the lead early on when Mohamed Bayo's shot hit the side-netting from a difficult angle.

Equatorial Guinea also had their fair share of missed opportunities, with Saul Coco hitting the wall from a free-kick and Aguibou Camara being tackled well by Basilio Ndong.

After the halftime break, Emilio Nsue had a chance to score his sixth goal of the tournament but was unable to find the target with his volley. Guinea thought they had taken the lead when Mory Konaté headed in from a free-kick, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

The second half was much more exciting, and the game took a major turn when Federico Bikoro was shown a red card for a high challenge on Bayo. Despite being down to 10 men, Equatorial Guinea still had a chance to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty. However, Nsue hit the post with his shot, leaving everyone in the stadium stunned.

Guinea seized the opportunity and brought on Serhou Guirassy to help them find a winning goal. His header was brilliantly saved by Jesus Owono, but it was Bayo who ultimately secured the victory for Guinea with a header in stoppage time.

This goal was Bayo's second of the match and only the third goal that Guinea had scored in the entire tournament. Despite facing setbacks, Guinea showed resilience and determination to come out on top.
