Eredivisie Round-Up: PSV stay perfect, Ajax frustrated, Holtby shines on NAC Breda debut

It was another dramatic weekend in the Eredivisie as PSV Eindhoven continued their perfect start, Ajax dropped points again, and NAC Breda picked up their first win of the campaign thanks to new signing Lewis Holtby.

Go Ahead Eagles 2–2 Ajax

Ajax’s mixed start to the season continued as they were held to a draw in Deventer. Davy Klaassen put the visitors ahead after just three minutes, but the hosts responded strongly. Melle Meulensteen’s header brought them level before Victor Edvardsen set up Evert Linthorst to give Go Ahead Eagles a shock lead.

Youri Baas struck deep into first-half stoppage time to restore parity, and although Ajax pressed for a winner after the break, they couldn’t find a way through. Ajax move to four points, while Go Ahead Eagles record their second draw.

Twente 0–2 PSV Eindhoven

PSV made it two wins from two with a composed display away at Twente. Sergiño Dest’s early cross forced Max Bruns into an own goal after just seven minutes, before Jerdy Schouten doubled the advantage with a tidy finish after the break.

Ismail Saibari was denied by the post as PSV looked for a third, but the job was already done. Twente remain without a point while PSV sit top with six points.

Sparta Rotterdam 2–1 Utrecht

A late penalty from Tobias Lauritsen earned Sparta Rotterdam their first victory of the season. Joshua Kitolano opened the scoring with a curling strike in the first half, but Utrecht hit back through Dani de Wit’s header on 63 minutes.

With the game heading for a draw, a handball by Mike van der Hoorn gifted Sparta a penalty, and Lauritsen made no mistake from the spot to seal all three points.

Volendam 2–2 AZ Alkmaar

AZ dropped their first points of the season after two costly errors from returning goalkeeper Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro. A poor pass from the shot-stopper gifted Aurelio Oehlers the opener, before Ibrahim Sadiq and Troy Parrott turned the game around for AZ.

But Volendam equalised when Owusu-Oduro failed to deal with Xavier Mbuyamba’s header, leaving both sides to settle for a point. It’s Volendam’s first of the campaign.

NAC Breda 2–1 Fortuna Sittard

New signing Lewis Holtby made an immediate impact for NAC Breda, inspiring them to their first win of the season. The German midfielder opened the scoring after 23 minutes and later set up Juho Talvitie, who smashed in a second off the crossbar.

Mohamed Ihattaren came off the bench for Fortuna and provided an assist for Philip Brittijn to reduce the deficit, but NAC held firm to claim victory.
