Estevao gets first Brazil call-up for World Cup qualifiers, Neymar still out

Estevao Willian, a 17-year-old striker known as 'Messinho', has received his first call-up to the Brazil national team by coach Dorival Jr (62) for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, as Neymar continues his recovery from injury.
Estevao, who is set to join Chelsea next year, will team up with his former Palmeiras colleague and new Real Madrid signing Endrick. The young talents will be joined by Vinicius Jr, who has also been selected to strengthen the attacking lineup.
"I have consistently prioritized young talent throughout my career. Estevao is a player who has been making significant strides and demonstrating remarkable potential. It is essential for us to have faith in these young athletes. I urge everyone to exercise patience, as we did with Endrick," Dorival stated during a press conference.
Neymar was omitted from the squad due to his ongoing recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee. The forward, who has undergone surgery, also missed the Copa America.
"There is no need for further commentary. His importance is well understood. However, everything must unfold at the appropriate time and place. I am confident that he will be reintegrated into the squad once he is fully recovered," Dorival added.
The manager, who assumed his role in January, has also excluded Barcelona winger Raphinha and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro from the selection.
Currently, Brazil sits sixth in the South American qualifiers with only seven points. They will host Ecuador in Curitiba on September 6th, followed by a match against Paraguay in Asuncion four days later.
