Everton 0-0 Chelsea: Blues miss chance to go top after goalless stalemate with Toffees

Chelsea failed to capitalize on the opportunity to ascend to the top of the Premier League table, settling for a goalless draw against newly-promoted Everton.
The Toffees have now managed to avoid defeat in six of their last seven home encounters against Chelsea, recording five victories, one draw, and one loss.
The Blues began the match with a strong intent at Goodison Park; however, clear scoring opportunities were scarce in the initial phases of the game.
It was not until nearly the half-hour mark that Chelsea posed a threat to Jordan Pickford, as Cole Palmer set up Nicolas Jackson, whose shot was saved, followed by Malo Gusto sending the rebound over the crossbar.
Shortly thereafter, Chelsea came close to breaking the deadlock again when a corner kick reached the back post, where Jackson reacted quickly to head the ball against the woodwork, with Gusto once more unable to capitalize on the rebound.
Although Everton had limited possession in the first half, a rapid counterattack led by Abdoulaye Doucouré provided some hope for the home side, culminating in Orel Mangala testing Robert Sánchez with a powerful shot.
Following their commendable 0-0 draw against title contenders Arsenal, no team in Europe’s top five leagues has recorded more clean sheets than Everton’s six since the beginning of October.
The Toffees proved to be a tough defensive unit, which set the stage for what should have been the opening goal shortly after the interval. However, Sánchez made an impressive save to deny an unmarked Jack Harrison from close range.
As the second half progressed, the hosts continued to create chances, with Sánchez again playing a crucial role in preventing Jesper Lindstrøm’s dangerous pass from reaching a teammate.
Ultimately, a draw appears to be a just result considering Everton's efforts in the second half. Chelsea's inability to secure a goal means they will not be at the top of the table during the Christmas period, remaining in second place behind Liverpool.
Merseyside rivals Everton have secured only one victory in their last eight league matches; however, earning another commendable point in this encounter would benefit Sean Dyche as his team ascends to 15th place in the league table.
