Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest: Wood stars as Forest defeat Toffees to climb up to second

Nottingham Forest equaled a club record by clinching their fifth consecutive victory in the Premier League, defeating Everton with a commanding score of 2-0. This success elevated the Tricky Trees into the top two positions in the league standings.

In their final league match at Goodison Park, Forest aimed to achieve victories against both Merseyside teams in the same season for the first time since 1898/99.

The recent takeover of Everton, coupled with a promising run of results, had uplifted the spirits of the Toffees' supporters. However, after a disjointed start, it was the visitors who took the lead.

Chris Wood and Anthony Elanga exchanged headers within the penalty area before Wood skillfully lifted the ball over Jordan Pickford with a precise side-footed finish, giving Forest the advantage.

Although Everton displayed determination in their response, their efforts lacked effectiveness, as an attack featuring Armando Broja on his full debut failed to challenge Matz Sels before halftime.

The Toffees struggled with creativity and quality in their possession, and the introduction of Jesper Lindstrøm at halftime did not lead to any noticeable improvement.

This situation played into Forest's strategy of counter-attacking, which was rewarded when Abdoulaye Doucouré's costly mistake allowed Wood to assist Morgan Gibbs-White, who executed a composed curling finish to extend the visitors' lead.

As Everton's situation began to deteriorate, Pickford made three consecutive close-range saves to keep the scoreline intact, denying attempts from Ramón Sosa and Neco Williams.

Efforts by Everton to mount a late comeback were thwarted by Forest's well-organized defense, and it was not until the 81st minute that Sean Dyche's side managed to register a shot on target, with substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin's attempt proving to be lackluster.

Everton has now scored just one goal in their last four matches, while this result marks the end of Dyche's personal unbeaten streak of eight games against Forest, who find themselves in a top-four position in the Premier League as they approach the new year for the first time since 1.
