Everton 1-0 Brenford: Idrissa Gueye's second-half strike secures survival for Toffees

Everton narrowly defeated Brentford with a 1-0 scoreline to secure their second-ever league double over the Bees and ensure their place in the top flight for another season.

Earlier results in the day allowed Brentford to celebrate their Premier League survival without playing, while Everton knew that a victory would guarantee their top-flight status.

With the pressure off both teams, the atmosphere was notably different from the intense noise during Everton's recent success in the Merseyside derby.

Following his goal in the derby, Jarrad Branthwaite made a crucial block to deny Mathias Jensen as the game reached the 20-minute mark.

The first half ended without a single shot on target, leaving both managers with adjustments to make during the break.

However, the second half saw a change in statistics as Ivan Toney's attempt was saved by Jordan Pickford after a well-weighted pass from Jensen.

Shortly after, Dwight McNeil came close to scoring with a long-range shot that hit the crossbar.

Everton continued to push forward and eventually broke the deadlock with Idrissa Gueye's goal in the 60th minute.

Gueye capitalized on a loose ball from Braithwaite's blocked shot and placed it into the top corner of the net.

Despite a late effort from substitute Keane Lewis-Potter, Brentford couldn't find an equalizer as Everton secured their fourth consecutive home win without conceding, moving above Brentford in the Premier League standings.

Although Brentford is safe from relegation, they will be disappointed to suffer their first defeat since mid-March.
