FA Cup: Pedro Porro late screamer sinks Burnley as Tottenham progress

Richarlison's recent goal-scoring form, with five goals in his last five games, would have given Tottenham hope that they can cope without their top-scorer Son Heung-min. However, Ange Postecoglou's team looked uninspiring and toothless in the first half.

The hosts' limited highlights included Richarlison missing a shot with his weaker foot, and Brennan Johnson, who was filling in for Son on the left, had a long-range effort saved by Arijanet Muric.

Despite the apparent mismatch on paper, Burnley held their ground and took advantage of Tottenham's risky high defensive line, creating chances for themselves.

The best opportunity of the first half fell to Zeki Amdouni, who had plenty of space in the penalty area but failed to control the ball before shooting over from 10 yards out. This missed chance would later haunt Vincent Kompany.

Burnley have never scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and their lack of threat continued in the second half, with Josh Cullen's poorly-struck effort being their only notable attempt.

Postecoglou's decision to move Dejan Kulusevski into a central role brought more danger from the hosts, and although Johnson's volley at the back post was saved by Muric, the Burnley goalkeeper couldn't stop a powerful right-footed strike from Porro, which ultimately decided the outcome of the match.

Tottenham have now progressed past the FA Cup third round for the 18th time in 19 seasons, and the absence of a replay will be a relief for Postecoglou and his injury-hit squad.

On the other hand, Burnley have lost 11 of their last 12 visits to Tottenham, but Kompany's team can at least take solace in the fact that they have 10 days to prepare for a crucial Premier League clash against Luton Town.
