Faith Kipyegon wins third straight 1500m gold

Faith Kipyegon of Kenya, aged 30, achieved her third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the 1500 metres on Saturday, decisively pulling ahead of her competitors to finish over a second in front of the rest of the field.
Kipyegon has solidified her legacy as one of the greatest middle-distance runners in history, becoming the first athlete to secure three consecutive Olympic titles in the 1,500m event.
Her remarkable finishing time of three minutes and 51.29 seconds not only earned her the gold but also set a new Olympic record. Overcome with emotion, she collapsed onto the track, her hands on her head in astonishment, after crossing the finish line.
Australia's Jessica Hull claimed the silver medal, while Britain's Georgia Bell took home the bronze, both athletes managing to surpass Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji in the final stretch. Hull recorded a time of 3:52.56, and Bell finished in 3:52.61, achieving a national record and improving her previous best by four seconds.
Kipyegon, who had recently broken her own world record just a month prior, spent a significant portion of the race in second place, closely following Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay.
However, she surged to the front with one lap remaining, establishing an insurmountable lead. Tsegay, the reigning world champion in the 10,000m, unexpectedly lost momentum and finished in last place.
