Female refereeing team to take charge of Serie A game for first time

An all-female refereeing team is set to officiate a Serie A match for the first time this weekend, as announced by the Italian Referees' Association (AIA) on Thursday.
Inter Milan, the league champions, will host Torino on Sunday, with Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi (33) taking the lead as the referee, supported by Francesca Di Monte and Tiziana Trasciatti as assistants.
This significant moment in the historically male-dominated realm of Italian football reflects the ongoing efforts towards better representation and inclusivity in the sport.
Ferrieri Caputi had already made history as the first female referee in Serie A during the Sassuolo vs Salernitana match in 2022. She has officiated six games in the Italian top flight this season.
The upcoming match at the San Siro will not only mark a milestone for female referees but also be a part of Inter's celebrations for their 20th league title, secured with a 2-1 victory over AC Milan on Monday.
