Fenerbahce 3-0 RSC Anderlecht: Hosts ease past Paars-wit to take control of Europa League play-off tie

Fenerbahçe has taken a significant step towards the UEFA Europa League (UEL) Round of 16 with a decisive 3-0 win against Anderlecht at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in the first leg of their play-off match, thereby extending their unbeaten streak across all competitions to 13 matches.
Although José Mourinho has faced challenges in replicating the early success of his managerial career, he has still managed to deliver results in European tournaments, notably winning the UEL with Manchester United in the 2016/17 season and the UEFA Conference League five years later with AS Roma.
Consequently, Fenerbahçe supporters are optimistic that he can guide their team to their first continental trophy, and they certainly positioned themselves favorably to advance during the first half of the match.
The Turkish side was notably more aggressive in the initial moments, taking the lead within the first 15 minutes when Dušan Tadić converted a header from Yusuf Akçiçek, following a cross from Filip Kostić.
In response, Anderlecht increased their intensity, and only a remarkable save from İrfan Eğribayat prevented Leander Dendoncker from leveling the score midway through the first half.
However, Mourinho has built a reputation for organizing defensively robust teams that can exploit opponents' vulnerabilities, and just as Anderlecht seemed to gain momentum, the Yellow Canaries struck again.
Akçiçek outmaneuvered Tristan Degreef before passing to Kostić, whose cutback found Edin Džeko in a favorable position at the edge of the penalty area. Although the veteran's first attempt was blocked, he calmly slotted the ball into the corner on his second attempt, placing his team in a dominant position.
This second goal appeared to deflate the visitors, effectively ending the contest before the hour mark.
A subsequent swift counter-attack led to Sebastian Szymański, whose cross was met with a powerful header from Youssef En-Nesyri, deserving of the setup.
Anderlecht's primary objective was to mitigate the damage and seek a consolation goal to lessen the challenge they face in Belgium next week. César Huerta managed to compel Eğribayat into a significant save from the edge of the penalty area.
Théo Leoni attempted a long-range shot that narrowly missed the target, but Fenerbahçe ultimately enjoyed a comfortable conclusion to the match. Unless an unforeseen disaster occurs in the coming week, they can begin to mentally prepare for a matchup against either Rangers or Olympiacos in the next round.
Conversely, Anderlecht must orchestrate a remarkable turnaround on their home ground following this disappointing defeat and cannot afford to replicate their slow start in the upcoming match.
