Ferrari's Leclerc fastest in Friday practice as Championship leader Verstappen struggles

Charles Leclerc, aged 26, demonstrated his speed in the upgraded Ferrari during practice for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which is the home race for the Italian team.
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, the Formula One leader from Red Bull, faced a challenging day on the track. Leclerc led both practice sessions at Imola's Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit and set the fastest time of one minute and 15.906 seconds. In the first session,
George Russell of Mercedes came in second, just 0.104 seconds behind Leclerc. McLaren's Oscar Piastri was the closest competitor to Verstappen in the second session, with a gap of 0.192.
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari secured third place in the first session, while Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull surprised everyone by taking the third spot in the second session.
Verstappen, who has won four out of six races this season, struggled and finished fifth and seventh fastest in the respective sessions after going off track multiple times.
Verstappen expressed his dissatisfaction with the car's balance and his lack of comfort, stating that there are areas that need improvement in order to be competitive.
He also complained about a lack of grip and had a tense moment with Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes on the track. Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, spun his Mercedes onto the grass during the first session but was able to continue.
In the later stint, the Briton secured the fourth position. Lando Norris, who claimed his first career victory in Miami last time, finished eighth and twelfth.
During the opening session, Alex Albon from Williams caused a brief interruption when he pulled over early due to the engine shutting down after going over a kerb.
After substituting for an unwell Sainz in Saudi Arabia, British teenager Oliver Bearman returned to a Formula One car, this time replacing Kevin Magnussen at Haas for the first practice session. This was one of the six outings he will have this year.
Bearman showcased his potential for a race seat next season by achieving the fifteenth fastest time, while his teammate Nico Hulkenberg ended up last on the timesheets.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu praised Bearman's performance, stating, "Once again, Bearman has done an exceptional job. He remains composed and understands what is required from each session, run, and lap. He quickly absorbs information, whether it's from his previous lap or the engineer's feedback. Today, I cannot find any faults with him. Great job."
