Fever's Aliyah Boston Named Unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year

Aliyah Boston, the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, has been crowned the WNBA Rookie of the Year, capping off an exceptional debut season in the league.

The Indiana Fever center earned this prestigious accolade by delivering a remarkable performance throughout her rookie year.

Boston, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, made an immediate impact in the WNBA, starting in every game for the Indiana Fever. She showcased her diverse skills, averaging 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. Impressively, she maintained an outstanding shooting percentage of 57.8% from the field, making her the first rookie in the league's history to lead in this statistical category.

The 60-member national media panel was unanimous in its selection of Aliyah Boston for the Rookie of the Year award. She joins an elite group of rookies who received unanimous votes, becoming the fifth player to achieve this feat and the first since A'ja Wilson accomplished it in 2018.

Aliyah Boston's remarkable performance not only earned her individual recognition but also contributed to the improvement of the Indiana Fever's overall performance. The team secured 13 victories during the season, a significant improvement over the previous year, when they won fewer games. Although the Fever fell short of making the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year, they hold the best odds of winning the draft lottery and securing the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

In addition to her Rookie of the Year title, Aliyah Boston was also a prominent figure in the league's all-rookie team, a selection that included talented newcomers such as Jordan Horston from the Seattle Storm, Li Meng from the Washington Mystics, and the Minnesota Lynx duo of Dorka Juhasz and Diamond Miller. Boston's stellar debut season marks her as a rising star to watch in the WNBA.
