FIFA announces 2026 World Cup ticket presale, prices range from $60 to $6,000

FIFA has confirmed that tickets for the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will go on sale next month with prices starting at $60. The governing body also revealed that it will adopt dynamic pricing for the first time at a men’s World Cup, meaning ticket prices will fluctuate based on demand.

The first phase, called the Visa Presale Draw, opens on September 10 at 11:00 ET (1500 CET) and will run until September 19. According to FIFA, around 1 million tickets will be made available in this initial stage, but entry into the presale draw does not guarantee fans a ticket. Instead, successful applicants will be randomly assigned time slots to make their purchases.

Ticket Prices and Dynamic Pricing Explained

Group-stage tickets will begin at $60, while the most coveted seats, including those for the final, could climb to as much as $6,730.

“We have approximately 1 million tickets available for the first Visa presale draw phase,” said Falk Eller, FIFA’s Director of Ticketing and Hospitality. “Prices will change according to market demand.”

Dynamic pricing, often used by airlines and hotel operators, adjusts prices depending on real-time demand. While the model allows FIFA to maximize ticket revenue, it has also drawn criticism in other industries. Earlier this year, Oasis fans voiced frustration after discovering ticket prices for the band’s reunion tour had surged during checkout due to a similar pricing strategy.

Secure Resale Platform Planned

To combat scalping and illegal resale, FIFA announced it will launch an official resale platform later this year. Unlike the presale draw, tickets listed on this platform will not have a fixed price cap, allowing market demand to dictate resale values.

For residents in Mexico, however, FIFA has partnered with the country’s consumer protection agency PROFECO to create a resale system that complies with national regulations. Tickets in Mexico will only be resold at face value, offering fans an additional safeguard against inflated secondary market prices.

What Fans Need to Know

  • Who can apply: The presale is exclusive to eligible Visa cardholders.
  • How it works: Fans must log into their FIFA account during the presale window and register for the draw. Randomly selected applicants will then receive purchase windows.
  • Guarantees: Entry into the draw does not guarantee a ticket, given the anticipated demand.
  • Future phases: Additional sales windows will open later in the year, giving more fans a chance to secure tickets.

A Record-Breaking Tournament Ahead

The 2026 World Cup is set to be the biggest in history, featuring 48 teams and over 100 matches across 16 cities. With venues spanning from Vancouver to Mexico City, it will also be the first World Cup hosted across three countries.

The combination of scale, high demand, and the introduction of dynamic pricing means ticketing for the tournament will be one of the most closely watched elements in the build-up to kickoff in June 2026.
