Fiorentina 3-2 Paphos: La Viola return to winning ways in Conference League with win over Paphos

Fiorentina has achieved a remarkable feat by securing six consecutive victories at home, following their 3-2 triumph over the Cypriot team Paphos at the Stadio Artemio Franchi during their most recent UEFA Conference League match.
Despite suffering a defeat against APOEL in their previous encounter, Fiorentina commenced this round positioned in the automatic qualification spots and were anticipated to deliver a dominant performance against Paphos.
However, they faced an unexpected challenge just moments into the match when Muamer Tankovic attempted a shot from outside the penalty area after a solo effort, only to be thwarted by an impressive save from Pietro Terracciano.
Following this early alarm, Fiorentina regrouped, and Christian Kouame came close to opening the scoring just before the 15-minute mark, but his attempt narrowly missed the left post.
Undeterred, Kouame persisted and was ultimately rewarded in the 38th minute, albeit through a stroke of luck. A well-executed move upfield saw Dodo make a run into the box, and although he found himself too deep to shoot, his cutback was cleverly executed.
After a double deflection, Kouame found the ball at his feet just inches from the goal line, allowing him to easily tap it in, marking Fiorentina's first goal in the first half of the Conference League this season.
Pepe had an opportunity to level the score with a free-kick just before the halftime whistle, but his low shot was directed straight at Terracciano, ensuring that Fiorentina remained focused as they entered the second half.
Fiorentina continued to control the pace of the match after the interval, ultimately extending their advantage.
Fortune played a significant role once more, as a counterattack down the left side saw Riccardo Sottil attempt to deliver a cross for Kouame. However, David Goldar inadvertently assisted by redirecting the ball into his own net.
With this development, a Fiorentina victory appeared to be a certainty; however, an unfortunate turn of events occurred for Raffaele Palladino’s squad at the three-quarter mark.
Eager to rectify his previous error, Goldar launched a long ball down the right flank to Bruno, who skillfully maneuvered into a crossing position and delivered a pass to Jairo, who executed a clever backheel that struck the far post, bringing Paphos back into contention.
Nevertheless, their aspirations for a draw were swiftly extinguished when a precise cross from Michael Kayode found Lucas Martinez Quarta at the far post, allowing the Argentine to head the ball across the goal into the far corner, reinstating Fiorentina’s two-goal lead.
From that point, Fiorentina focused on managing the game effectively, but a critical error reopened the door for Paphos.
In what should have been a straightforward clearance, Dodo passed to Terracciano, who took an extra touch and inadvertently presented Jaja with a simple opportunity, allowing the Brazilian to roll the ball into the net after a clean challenge on the distraught Fiorentina goalkeeper.
Fiorentina had to endure a tense final few minutes but ultimately secured the victory, ensuring their position within the top eight of the league phase.
Meanwhile, Paphos’ hopes of reaching that coveted spot now hang by a thread, making their upcoming match against Celje in two weeks absolutely crucial.
