Flames sign defenseman Brayden Pachal to two-year contract extension

The Calgary Flames and Brayden Pachal (25) have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension valued at $2.375 million, as announced by the team on Tuesday.
Under this new deal, Pachal will receive an average annual salary of $1.1875 million until he becomes a free agent in 2028.
Initially, he was poised to enter restricted free agency at the conclusion of the current season after being claimed off waivers on February 4th of this year, but he is enthusiastic about continuing his career in Calgary.
This season, Pachal has recorded one goal and one assist, along with 72 hits and 27 penalty minutes. The defenseman, who previously won a Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights, has also achieved 11 takeaways this year, significantly surpassing his prior career-high of five during the 2023-2024 season.
Despite having played three years in the league, Pachal netted his first goal in 2023, highlighting the significance of each of his goals. He is emerging as an essential component of Calgary's aspirations for future success.
Currently, the Flames hold a record of 15-11-5 and occupy the fifth position in the Pacific Division, trailing behind the Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks.
