Florian Wirtz named Bundesliga Player of the Season

Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen has been named Bundesliga Player of the Season, the German League announced on Monday, after helping his team win their first league title.

Leverkusen are the first team to finish a Bundesliga season undefeated, and they are still unbeaten in all competitions this season after 51 games. Wirtz has scored 18 goals in 47 games.

Wirtz scored a hat-trick off the bench in a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen in April, securing the Bundesliga title with five games remaining, and Leverkusen have the Europa League and German Cup finals to play.

The 21-year-old's performances earned him three Player of the Month awards this season. He has also been named to Germany's preliminary squad for Euro 2024. He scored the only goal in Germany's 1-0 friendly victory over France in March.

Fans (40%), clubs (30%), and experts (30%) vote to determine the award winner.
