Fluminense announce Chelsea star Thiago Silva's return after more than 15 years

Fluminense announced in an official statement that the player will arrive in Rio de Janeiro to join coach Fernando Diniz's squad in approximately one month, following the conclusion of his contract with Chelsea in England.

He will then proceed to complete the necessary procedures for his transfer. The club stated that the defender will not be eligible to play until July 10th, when the international transfer window opens.

Thiago Silva, who is considered an idol of Fluminense and is affectionately known as the 'Monster', previously played for the team from 2006 to 2008.

During his first stint with the Tricolour, he won the Copa do Brasil title in 2007 and was a runner-up in the Libertadores in 2008. He played a total of 147 games and scored 14 goals.

Expressing his excitement, Thiago Silva mentioned in a live stream on Fluminense's Instagram that he can't wait to arrive in Rio and begin working with the team.

He also acknowledged that it was a difficult decision for his family, as they will remain in London for the time being. During the live stream, he was already seen wearing the tricolour shirt.

Despite receiving offers from clubs in England and Saudi Arabia, Thiago Silva made the choice to return to Fluminense. The experienced centre-back will wear the same number three shirt that he wore over 15 years ago.

At the age of 39, Thiago Silva's arrival will strengthen the Tricolour's defense, which has been unsettled since the departure of Nino to Zenit at the end of last season.
