Former Baltimore Orioles Pitcher Brian Matusz dies at 37

Former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz has passed away at the age of 37, as confirmed by the team.

The specific cause of his death has not yet been disclosed. Matusz was selected by the Orioles as the fourth overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft and dedicated eight years to the organization before retiring after the 2016 season.

Fans of the Orioles have taken to social media to express their thoughts on Matusz and the significant influence he had on the Orioles community and its supporters.

In 2007, Matusz was a member of the USA Baseball National Team and led all of college baseball in strikeouts the following year, which earned him the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, recognizing him as the best amateur baseball player. He made his major league debut with the Orioles in 2009.

The accomplished left-handed pitcher, who recorded a career ERA of 4.92, played a crucial role in the Orioles' bullpen during their promising 2014 World Series campaign, which ultimately ended in defeat against the Kansas City Royals in the American League Championship.

His impressive 3.48 ERA that season ranked among the best on the team, preceding a 2015 season in which he achieved career-best statistics.

In his final full season with the Orioles in 2015, Matusz posted a 2.94 ERA, achieving a career-high of 56 strikeouts as a relief pitcher, where he found considerable success.

Matusz also made his mark in MLB history as a member of the renowned 2016 Chicago Cubs team that ended a 108-year championship drought by defeating the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.

He concluded his career on a triumphant note, as a World Series champion.

We at Flashcore extend our heartfelt condolences to Matusz's family and friends during this challenging time.
