Former Sheffield United Defender George Baldock found dead at 31

Baldock, aged 31, was discovered lifeless in his home swimming pool located in Glyfada. Details surrounding the circumstances of his passing have not been disclosed at this time.
In the summer of 2024, Baldock departed England to join Panathinaikos in the Greek Super League, following a successful seven-year tenure with Sheffield United in both the Championship and Premier League.
The Greek Super League issued an official statement confirming the death of the 31-year-old.
"The entire Super League football community expresses profound sorrow over the untimely passing of Panathinaikos and our National Team player, George Baldock, and extends heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones."
Baldock began his senior football career with MK Dons before transferring to Sheffield United in 2017, where he played a pivotal role in two promotion campaigns. He also made 38 appearances as the Blades achieved an impressive ninth-place finish in the Premier League in 2020.
A beloved figure at Bramall Lane, Baldock made 219 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and providing 16 assists.
Sheffield United honored Baldock on social media, stating: "Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock.
"The defender departed the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was immensely popular among supporters, staff, and teammates who wore the red and white shirt alongside him.
"The heartfelt condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George's family and friends."
Baldock, a 12-time international for Greece, had played four matches for Panathinaikos this season but was not selected for the national team's Nations League match against England at Wembley on Thursday.
