Former Spain Women's Head Coach Jorge Vilda Summoned in Investigation of Rubiales' Controversial Kiss"

Former Spain women's national team coach Jorge Vilda has been summoned to appear before a judge as part of an ongoing investigation into former soccer federation president Luis Rubiales. The investigation centers around Rubiales kissing a player on the lips without her consent during the Women's World Cup awards ceremony.

Jorge Vilda, along with two other federation officials, has been summoned as an investigated party in the case. Their court appearance is scheduled for October 10.

Three national team players, Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes, and Misa Rodríguez, have already been summoned to testify as witnesses in the investigation.

Spanish state prosecutors have accused Luis Rubiales of sexual assault and coercion for the controversial kiss he gave to Jenni Hermoso during the Women's World Cup final awards ceremony in Australia.

If found guilty of sexual assault, Rubiales could face a fine or a prison sentence ranging from one to four years under a sexual consent law passed last year. This law has eliminated the distinction between "sexual harassment" and "sexual assault," penalizing any unconsented sexual act.

As a result of the controversy, Rubiales eventually resigned from his position, and the national team players ended their boycott after receiving assurances of changes within the federation. Some federation officials have already been dismissed due to the ongoing investigation.

The investigation into Luis Rubiales' actions continues to raise questions about consent and appropriate behavior in sports, with significant legal consequences potentially at stake.
