Frank Lampard appointed Coventry head coach

Frank Lampard, aged 46, has been appointed as the new head coach of Coventry City following an 18-month hiatus from coaching.

The former England and Chelsea midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Sky Blues, who currently sit in 17th place in the Championship.

Lampard takes over from Mark Robins, who was dismissed after a seven-year tenure, leaving the club just two points above the relegation zone.

He will be joined by coaches Joe Edwards and Chris Jones at the CBS Arena, with whom he has previously collaborated.

Doug King, the owner and executive chairman of Coventry, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I am thrilled that Frank Lampard has chosen to lead our club as head coach. Frank has gained valuable experience in the Championship and understands what it takes to succeed in this league.

"His subsequent experiences at Chelsea and Everton will provide our talented squad with a clear perspective on what is required to excel at the highest level, which is the ambition we are pursuing as a club."

Lampard has been without a managerial position since his departure from Chelsea in 2023, where he returned in an interim capacity after the dismissal of Graham Potter. He has had two separate tenures with Chelsea, in addition to managerial roles at Derby County and Everton.

Lampard's inaugural match in charge of Coventry will take place at home against Cardiff on Saturday.
