Frankfurt 5-1 Bayern Munich: Champions' unbeaten start snapped by clinical hosts

On Saturday, Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed Bayern Munich 5-1 with a three-goal first-half performance, ending the champions' unbeaten run in the Bundesliga this season.

Eintracht overran Bayern and exposed their shaky backline in an explosive first half, scoring three times in 24 minutes.

The Bavarians, who did not play last week because their league match against Union Berlin was postponed due to snow, looked tired and disorganized, with coach Thomas Tuchel unusually substituting both fullbacks at halftime.

Omar Marmoush opened the scoring for the hosts in the 12th minute, drilling in on the rebound after Fares Chaibi had hit the crossbar following a miskick by Bayern's Noussair Mazraoui.

After more sloppy Bayern defending, Eric Dina Ebimbe doubled their lead in the 31st minute, and Hugo Larsson made it 3-0 five minutes later, taking advantage of a Joshua Kimmich error.

Kimmich made amends just before halftime with a powerful shot from 20 yards out, but it was not enough to stop the hosts.

Five minutes after the restart, Eintracht scored again to make it 4-1, outplaying Bayern with another textbook quick break and Ebimbe beating keeper Manuel Neuer for his second goal of the afternoon.

Ansgar Knauff scored on the hour to make it 5-1, making Frankfurt the first team in 48 years to score five goals in one hour against Bayern in the Bundesliga, since their own 6-0 victory in 1975.

Bayern, who have a game in hand, remain in second place with 32 points, while leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who have 35 points, visit third-placed VfB Stuttgart on Sunday.
