Frosinone 3-0 Salernitana: Salernitana relegated after defeat to fellow strugglers

Salernitana's demotion to Serie B was solidified after a 3-0 defeat away to Frosinone, putting an end to a five-game winless run at the Stadio Benito Stirpe.

The team entered the match with the goal of moving out of the relegation zone after a series of four consecutive draws raised their hopes of survival.

Frosinone were presented with an excellent opportunity to break their 12-match winless streak against a Salernitana team that was still two points away from the lowest-ever total in Serie A history, set by Chievo during the 2018/19 season.

Early in the game, Frosinone was given a golden chance to score after Junior Sambia was penalized for a foul in the penalty area. Matias Soule converted the subsequent penalty kick expertly, giving his team the lead.

The home team extended their advantage before the half-hour mark when Marco Brescianini scored a well-placed shot after a precise pass from Emanuele Valeri.

Despite Salernitana's efforts to come back in the second half, they were unable to break through the Frosinone defense. A late goal from Nadir Zortea sealed the victory for Frosinone, moving them up to 17th in the standings.

Frosinone now sits three points ahead of Udinese as they prepare for their upcoming match against Bologna.

In the meantime, Salernitana has received confirmation that they will be competing in the second division in the upcoming season, having only secured two victories in the current campaign. They must now regroup and swiftly strive to return to the top tier, aiming to regain their status among the elite teams.
