Fulham 2-1 Leicester: Iwobi and Smith Rowe on target as Cottagers battle past visitors

Fulham has achieved their first home victory in a Premier League season since 2012/13, narrowly defeating newly promoted Leicester City at Craven Cottage, thereby securing a third consecutive win in their head-to-head encounters.

After a disappointing near miss for a point at Old Trafford on the opening night of the Premier League's 33rd season, the Fulham supporters were treated to an early highlight, as one of their summer acquisitions found the net just 18 minutes into their home campaign.

The player in focus was Emile Smith Rowe, who celebrated his recent transfer from Arsenal in spectacular fashion. He received a precise pass from Adama Traoré, drove into the penalty area, and unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that beat Mads Hermansen.

This goal marked his return to scoring in the Premier League since April 2022 and placed Leicester under significant pressure, allowing Rodrigo Muniz a prime opportunity to double the lead. However, he unfortunately directed a close-range header wide after connecting with Antonee Robinson’s deep cross.

Although Leicester struggled for much of the first half, they managed to equalize with a crucial goal from a corner in the 38th minute. Wout Faes's powerful header was initially disallowed for offside against Jamie Vardy, but referee Darren Bond reversed his decision after a brief review with VAR.

Faes nearly turned from hero to villain early in the second half when a careless flick allowed Fulham to create a chance for Muniz, who, fortunately for Faes and Leicester, sent a powerful shot soaring over the crossbar.

The newly promoted team endeavored to maintain parity, but their defense was eventually breached by Alex Iwobi's goal in the 70th minute. The Nigerian international was set free on goal by Robinson’s clever pass and managed to slot a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper.

Following the restoration of their narrow lead, the home team was determined not to relinquish their advantage a second time, demonstrating resilience to secure all three points and achieve their first home league victory since March.
