Fulham 2-2 Bournemouth: Ouattara's late eqaulizer rescues point for Cherries against Cottagers

A late equalizer from Dango Ouattara enabled Bournemouth to secure a 2-2 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage, extending their unbeaten streak in the league to seven matches and temporarily preserving their position within the Premier League's top six.

Aiming for their fourth consecutive away victory in the league for the first time in a year, Bournemouth created the initial two clear opportunities in this contest between two confident teams.

David Brooks was responsible for capitalizing on both occasions, with a shot from the edge of the area requiring a save from Bernd Leno in the 10th minute, followed by a subsequent attempt that narrowly missed the left post a few minutes later.

Leno continued to excel, making a remarkable save on the half-hour mark when Antoine Semenyo found space in the box and unleashed a close-range effort.

Fulham eventually began to assert themselves, scoring somewhat against the run of play five minutes before halftime. Raúl Jiménez connected with an Andreas Pereira corner, heading the ball into the net to mark his seventh goal of the season.

Just prior to the break, Alex Iwobi had an opportunity to extend Fulham's lead but unfortunately shot over the bar.

Interestingly, Jiménez’s goal continued a pattern where all seven of his goals in the 2024/25 season had opened the scoring; however, with only one of those goals proving to be decisive, there was no room for complacency.

That goal lost its potential 'decisive' significance just five minutes into the second half, as Bournemouth equalized through Evanilson’s shot into the top-right corner of Leno’s net.

Given the balance of play, it seemed that a winner would require a combination of luck and skill, with both goalkeepers having their moments of brilliance around the three-quarter mark. Bournemouth’s Kepa Arrizabalaga had a standout moment, denying a Jiménez header that was destined for the bottom-right corner.

However, as destiny would dictate, the pendulum once again favored Fulham in the 72nd minute, when a cross from Antonee Robinson took an unexpected deflection that confused Kepa, allowing Harry Wilson to score with a close-range header.

Nevertheless, Fulham appeared not to have heeded their previous lesson, and Bournemouth ultimately had the final say. In the dying moments of regular time, Antoine Semenyo located Ouattara within the penalty area, who, noticing Leno off his line, skillfully chipped the ball into the net, quieting the Fulham supporters.

Despite this disappointing conclusion, Fulham remains unbeaten in their last four home matches and in as many home encounters against Bournemouth, while Marco Silva's impressive managerial record against the Cherries remains intact (W3, D3).
