Fulham 3-1 Brighton: Iwobi at the double as Cottagers defeat Seagulls to close in on top five

Alex Iwobi’s (28) first brace in a year propelled Fulham to their inaugural Premier League victory in three attempts, as they triumphed over a determined Brighton & Hove Albion team with a score of 3-1 at Craven Cottage, thereby re-entering the top half of the league standings.
The hosts wasted no time in establishing an early lead, capitalizing on a defensive error from the Seagulls just four minutes into the match. Iwobi intercepted a pass from Bart Verbruggen and calmly finished into an unguarded net.
Shortly thereafter, Rodrigo Muniz missed a header from close range, while Bernd Leno made a crucial save at the opposite end, diving to deny Simon Adingra’s close-range attempt.
Fabian Hurzeler’s squad began to find their rhythm, yet they continued to seek that decisive touch in the attacking third.
From the stands, the manager expressed his frustration as his team struggled to create opportunities from a series of corner kicks. They nearly faced consequences when Muniz rose to meet another cross but directed his header wide once again.
Harry Wilson attempted a volley just 10 seconds into the second half, as the Cottagers executed a well-planned kick-off strategy.
Moments later, Jan Paul van Hecke squandered a chance for the visitors with a header that sailed over the bar. However, they soon found their equalizer when Carlos Baleba struck Joao Pedro’s well-placed knock-down into the far corner from 20 yards.
This goal appeared to shift the momentum in Brighton’s favor, but Fulham, who have now scored in a club record-equalling 13 consecutive Premier League matches, had other plans.
They looked the more likely side to secure a winner, particularly exploiting opportunities down their left side, although several crosses were successfully defended.
Ultimately, it was an own goal that restored Marco Silva’s team to the lead, as a corner from Andreas Pereira struck Matt O’Riley’s back and deflected into the far corner.
The hosts had additional contributions to make, as Iwobi secured a well-earned victory by maneuvering into space within the penalty area and delivering a low shot past Verbruggen into the far corner.
This outcome leaves the Cottagers unbeaten in their last nine encounters, while the visitors, who have managed only one clean sheet in their previous twelve matches, missed the opportunity to surpass Manchester City and reclaim a position in the top four.
