Galatasaray accuse Mourinho of racism towards Turkish people

Galatasaray made significant allegations against Jose Mourinho (62) on Monday following the goalless draw in the Istanbul derby against his Fenerbahce team.

The accusations of racism pertain to remarks made by the Portuguese coach regarding the reactions of the opposing bench to the referee's decisions during the match.

"Since the beginning of his tenure in Turkiye, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has consistently made disparaging remarks about the Turkish populace. Today, his comments have transcended mere immoral observations to become distinctly inhumane rhetoric.

"We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.

"Additionally, we will closely monitor the response of Fenerbahce—an organization that claims to uphold 'exemplary moral values'—to the unacceptable behavior displayed by their manager," the statement from Galatasaray indicated.

The controversy centers on Mourinho's comments following the match, which was officiated by foreign referee Slavko Vincic. At the conclusion of the game, the Portuguese coach expressed gratitude towards the referee, prompting a reaction from his rivals.

"I have to thank the referee. With everyone on the opposing bench jumping like monkeys at every decision, he had great character in what can be considered a jungle environment.

"If he had been a Turkish referee, he would have issued a yellow card to Yusuf Akcicek in the first minute, and I would have had to substitute him after just five minutes," he remarked about the young center-back who participated in the match.

Currently, Galatasaray leads the Turkish league with 64 points, six points ahead of second-placed Fenerbahce, with 12 matches remaining in the season.
