Galatasaray clinch 24th Super Lig title with final day victory over Konyaspor

Galatasaray won their 24th Turkish title on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Konyaspor, finishing three points ahead of arch Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce, who have not won the league in a decade.
Galatasaray won for the second year in a row, following a season marred by controversy and violence both on and off the pitch.
Argentine forward Mauro Icardi scored twice, and Switzerland-born Turkish midfielder Berkan Kutlu added a third in Galatasaray's win in Konya, sparking celebrations among their fans in Istanbul and beyond.
Galatasaray finished with 102 points, while Fenerbahce, who thrashed Istanbulspor 6-0, had 99.
Trabzonspor, in third place, have 67 points after defeating Ankaragucu 4-2 at home on Sunday.
Galatasaray have only lost two league games this season, one of which came at home against Fenerbahce a week ago, delaying their championship. They scored 92 goals and conceded 26.
Fenerbahce only lost once, but they drew six times to Galatasaray’s three.
Icardi led the league in goals with 24, followed by Edin Dzeko, a Bosnian forward for Fenerbahce, who had 21.
Galatasaray's victory brought an end to a controversial season.
Faruk Koca, the president of Superlig club Ankaragucu, was arrested in December after punching a referee in the face at the end of a match. The official told police that Koca had also threatened to kill him.
Two weeks later, the Super Cup final between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh was called off shortly before kickoff due to a reported dispute over the clubs' warm-up kits.
When the match finally took place in April, Fenerbahce's players walked off the pitch after one minute, forcing the game to be abandoned after media reported that the club's request to postpone the match due to a European fixture had been denied.
Trabzonspor fans stormed the pitch in March, brawling with security and Fenerbahce players. Fenerbahce threatened to withdraw from the league, but ultimately decided to continue playing.
