Gareth Bale to commentate in UEFA Europa League Final as Son Heung-min eyes first trophy

Gareth Bale is set to step into the commentary box for one of Tottenham Hotspur’s biggest matches in recent memory, just as Son Heung-min prepares to chase his first major club trophy.

According to The Sun on May 20 (KST), Bale will provide live analysis for TNT Sports during the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League Final between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. The high-stakes clash will take place at Estadio San Mamés in Bilbao, Spain, with kickoff scheduled for 4 a.m. (Korean time) on May 22.

Bale's return to Spurs spotlight

Bale, now 36, famously helped Tottenham lift their last major trophy, the League Cup in 2008. The Welsh superstar, who retired from football in 2023, has since dabbled in golf, modeling, and sporadic punditry. With the final being held in Spain, where Bale won three La Liga titles and five UEFA Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, his insights are expected to be particularly rich.

Son Heung-min’s Golden Opportunity

For Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, this is a defining moment. Despite reaching the Champions League final in 2019 and the Carabao Cup final in 2021, the South Korean icon has never lifted a trophy in his club career. A win against Manchester United would end Spurs’ 17-year silverware drought and finally crown Son's long-awaited dream with silver.

Bale and Son previously shared the pitch during the 2020/21 season, when Bale returned to North London on loan. Though the trio of Bale, Son, and Harry Kane promised fireworks, injuries and rotation limited Bale’s minutes. Still, he built camaraderie with Son and fellow Welsh international Ben Davies, forming what fans fondly dubbed the "Wales Mafia."

Managerial Stakes: Postecoglou vs Amorim

For Ange Postecoglou, the UEL final represents a last chance to salvage a season of ups and downs in the Premier League. A trophy would not only mark his first silverware with Tottenham but also redefine the club’s trajectory under his leadership.

Meanwhile, Manchester United, managed by Rúben Amorim, is chasing its first European title since the 2016/17 Europa League win under José Mourinho. The Red Devils are eager to avoid a repeat of their 2021 final heartbreak, when they lost to Villarreal on penalties.

Don't miss what could be Son Heung-min's historic night with Gareth Bale back in the Spurs spotlight, offering live commentary as Tottenham chases its long-awaited return to European glory.
