Gareth Southgate Resigns as England Manager After Heartbreaking Euro Loss

In his resignation statement, Southgate expressed that it was "time for change, and for a new chapter." He confirmed that the Euro 2024 final in Berlin against Spain was his last game as England manager.
Southgate took over the managerial role in 2016 during a period of low fortunes for the England national team. Under his leadership, England reached three semi-finals and two finals in the last four major tournaments. This achievement stands out, as prior to his tenure, the Three Lions had only reached three major tournament semi-finals and one final, which was the 1966 World Cup that they won.
Reflecting on his time as manager, Southgate, 53, described his tenure as the "honour of my life." He expressed pride in both playing for and managing England, stating, "It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all."
Southgate’s resignation marks the end of a significant era for the England national team, characterized by a notable improvement in their international performance and a rekindling of national pride in their footballing capabilities.
