Gauff defeats Linette in Wuhan Open quarter-finals, securing her 50th win of the year

Tennis World number four Coco Gauff, achieved her 50th WTA main draw victory of the year by defeating Magda Linette, ranked 32, with a score of 6-0, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open on Friday.
This win potentially paves the way for a semi-final encounter with the top seed, Aryna Sabalenka, who is 26 years old.
Gauff, a former US Open champion, has recently made adjustments to her grip under the guidance of her new coach, Matt Daly. Despite encountering difficulties with double faults throughout both sets, she showcased her dominance with effective returns against a Linette who struggled with errors.
"I played well ... overall, maybe two bad games," Gauff remarked in her post-match interview, noting that her winning streak has now reached nine matches.
Linette nearly broke Gauff's serve twice in the first set, but Gauff successfully saved four break points to maintain her serve in both instances, winning 14 out of 21 return points, which led to a scoreless first set for Linette.
Although Gauff recorded eight double faults during the match, she faced a more challenging second set. However, one of Linette's 22 unforced errors provided Gauff with a crucial advantage in the seventh game, allowing her to secure the only break of the set and clinch the victory.
The winner of the third quarter-final on Friday, featuring US Open champion Sabalenka against Magdalena Frech, will face Gauff on Saturday.
"I've played them both before; they're tough opponents," Gauff stated.
In another quarter-final later in the day, third seed Jasmine Paolini will compete against fifth seed Zheng Qinwen, while Ekaterina Alexandrova will take on Wang Xinyu.
