George Russell calls out Max Verstappen as a 'bully' after Qatar GP clash

George Russell (26) on Thursday accused Max Verstappen (27) of making threats to intentionally collide with him, following Verstappen's refusal to retract his criticism of the Mercedes driver.
Russell claimed that Verstappen had dangerously obstructed him during the qualifying session at the Qatar Grand Prix last week, a situation that led to an investigation by the stewards and resulted in Verstappen losing pole position to Russell.
Ahead of this weekend's season-concluding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver asserted that Russell had misled the stewards and expressed that he had "no regrets" regarding his remarks made in Doha, where he stated he had "lost all respect" for the British driver.
In response to Verstappen's recent comments, Russell characterized the four-time world champion as a bully who had threatened to deliberately crash into him.
"I find it quite ironic that on Saturday night he stated he would intentionally go out of his way to crash into me and, quote, 'Put me on my (expletive) head in the wall'," remarked the Mercedes driver.
"To question someone's integrity while making such statements the day prior is, in my view, very ironic.
"I refuse to accept this behavior. Max has bullied others for years, and while his driving skills are unquestionable, he struggles to handle adversity.
"Whenever he faces a challenge... he reacts aggressively. Take Budapest this year, for instance, the first race where his car was not dominant, resulting in a collision with Lewis and criticism of his team.
"In my opinion, his comments on Saturday night and Sunday were completely disrespectful and unwarranted because what occurs on the track where we compete fiercely is part of racing... However, he has now crossed a line."
Verstappen secured victory in Qatar, starting from the second position on the grid, alongside Russell, whom he accused of influencing the stewards to impose a penalty on him.
"I have no regrets whatsoever because I stand by everything I said," Verstappen remarked.
"If given the chance to do it again, I might have expressed even more!"
"Considering the race's outcome, I am still astonished that someone could behave in such a manner within the stewards' room.
"In my view, that was entirely unacceptable because we are all racing drivers.
"We hold a great deal of respect for one another. We even engage in sports together and travel together... Naturally, there are instances where we may collide or experience dissatisfaction...
"I simply never anticipated that someone would go to such lengths to actively seek a penalty for another and misrepresent my actions, but it evidently influenced their decision."
Russell maintained that he would not seek to reconcile with his competitor, asserting that it was Verstappen's "issue to resolve."
"One can occasionally cross the line with a minor error, but deliberately stating that you would crash into someone and cause them to flip is crossing a significant boundary," he stated.
