Germany legend and World Cup winner Andreas Brehme dies aged 63

Andreas Brehme, the FIFA World Cup winner, has passed away at the age of 63, as confirmed by his former club Kaiserslautern on Tuesday.

Brehme, known for his attacking prowess as a full-back and dead-ball specialist, etched his name in German football history when his penalty secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 1990 World Cup final in Rome, granting Germany their third world title.

Kaiserslautern expressed their condolences, stating, "FCK mourns the loss of Andreas Brehme.

He proudly wore the Red Devils' jersey for a decade, achieving German championship and German Cup triumphs with FCK."

"In 1990, his penalty propelled the German national team to World Cup glory, solidifying his status as a football legend.

The FCK family is deeply saddened, and our thoughts are with Andi's family and friends."

Brehme's illustrious career also saw him play for renowned clubs such as Bayern Munich and Inter Milan before retiring in 1998.

He represented Germany in 86 matches, scoring eight goals, including the memorable one that remains etched in the minds of football enthusiasts.
