Getafe 2-0 Granada: Greenwood and Mayoral on target as Getafe grind past visitors

Getafe solidified their position in the upper echelons of LaLiga by securing a 2-0 triumph against Granada, who are currently battling relegation. This victory further accentuated the visitors' woeful streak, as they have managed to secure only one win in their last 20 matches since August (D5, L14).

After suffering back-to-back defeats in the league for the first time since April, Getafe understood the importance of responding positively against their weaker opponents.

With a determined mindset, the home team came close to scoring within the first 15 minutes when Borja Mayoral's header was brilliantly saved by Augusto Batalla.

However, Getafe didn't let that setback discourage them and soon broke the deadlock. Mason Greenwood's hopeful shot from outside the box took a deflection and went past Batalla, giving the hosts a well-deserved lead.

Buoyed by this goal, Getafe extended their advantage in the 36th minute. Mayoral capitalized on a mistake by Batalla and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net.

The dominance continued as halftime approached, although Getafe couldn't add to their lead. Nevertheless, they had already made it difficult for the visitors to mount a comeback in the second half.

Granada struggled to make an impact in the first half but emerged with renewed determination after the break. However, they missed a golden opportunity to score when Myrto Uzuni's penalty hit the post after VAR penalized Jordi Martin for a handball.

Undeterred, Granada continued to search for a goal in the final 15 minutes, but substitute Oscar Melendo's shot was saved by David Soria.

With their two-goal lead intact, Getafe regained control of the game in the closing stages and secured a hard-fought victory, extending their unbeaten record against Granada to five matches (2 wins, 3 draws).

On the other hand, Granada remains six points away from safety and desperately needs an improved performance against Las Palmas on Saturday.
