GFA President Kurt Okraku Appointed CAF Second Vice President

Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has been named Second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a proud milestone for Ghanaian football leadership on the continental stage.
The announcement was made during the CAF Executive Committee meeting held on April 26, 2025, in Accra, where Ghana also hosted the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
New Leadership Structure at CAF
Okraku's promotion is part of CAF's broader leadership restructuring, designed to enhance regional representation and football expertise. The new Vice Presidents lineup includes:
- First Vice President: Fouzi Lekjaa (Morocco)
- Second Vice President: Kurt Okraku (Ghana)
- Third Vice President: Pierre-Alain Mounguengui (Gabon)
- Fourth Vice President: Bestine Kazadi Ditabala (DR Congo)
- Fifth Vice President: Feizal Sidat (Mozambique)
This leadership reshuffle follows the departure of several former vice presidents who moved into FIFA roles or exited due to internal political changes within CAF.

A New Chapter for Ghanaian Football Administration
Since taking office as GFA President in 2019, Okraku has championed grassroots development, youth programs, and the growth of women's football in Ghana. His dynamic leadership has earned him regional respect, particularly as head of WAFU Zone B.
Now, as CAF Second Vice President, Okraku will have a direct hand in shaping key policies and initiatives across African football — strengthening Ghana's voice in continental decision-making.
Okraku's achievement mirrors that of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, who in 2017 became the first Ghanaian to serve as CAF's First Vice President. Okraku has publicly expressed gratitude for Nyantakyi’s mentorship and influence on his career.
What It Means for African Football
Okraku's appointment comes at a pivotal time for CAF, as the organization gears up for major projects like the expanded FIFA World Cup and the next Africa Cup of Nations.
With experienced leaders like Okraku now in senior positions, CAF aims to drive greater stability, governance reforms, and innovation in African football management.
