Golden State Warriors land Jimmy Butler in blockbuster deal, sign him to massive extension

The Golden State Warriors have successfully acquired star forward Jimmy Butler (35) from the Miami Heat in a significant five-team trade ahead of Thursday's deadline, as reported by NBA insider Shams Charania.

Butler has signed a two-year contract extension worth $121 million with the Warriors, which will keep him with the team through the 2026-27 season.

The specifics of the trade are as follows:

Warriors receive: Jimmy Butler

Heat receive: Andrew Wiggins, P.J. Tucker, and a protected first-round pick

Jazz receive: Dennis Schroder

Raptors receive: Kyle Anderson (pending resolution of issues)

Pistons receive: Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson

Butler has been in the spotlight recently due to several suspensions by the Heat related to his off-court behavior.

The six-time All-Star and 14-year veteran is currently averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game this season. He will be joining a Warriors team that holds the 10th position in the Western Conference with a record of 25-24.

Wiggins (29), who has been with the Warriors for the past six seasons, is averaging 17.6 points per game this year. Schroder (31), who is contributing 10.6 points per game, was acquired in a previous trade with the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season.

Anderson (31), who is averaging 5.3 points per game in 15.0 minutes, was in his first season with the Warriors. Lindy Waters III, also in his inaugural year with the team, has been averaging 5.5 points per game.
