Griekspoor and Van de Zandschulp crash out in first round of home tournament

The top-ranked Dutch doubles team, consisting of Tallon Griekspoor (28) and Botic van de Zandschulp (29), has been ousted from the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam following a straight-sets defeat to the German pair of Kevin Krawietz (33) and Tim Puetz (37), with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (5).
After a promising start on the Centre Court at Ahoy, Griekspoor and Van de Zandschulp relinquished control to their German rivals. The leading Dutch duo was unable to break the serve of Krawietz and Puetz after the initial game, squandering several notable opportunities and ultimately succumbing to a 6-3 loss in the first set.
Having faced each other in the doubles final at the Occitanie Open in Montpellier just days prior, Griekspoor and Van de Zandschulp fell into a similar pattern in the second set. Despite winning their first two service games, they quickly found themselves trailing.
A pivotal seventh game revitalized their chances, allowing them to break the German team and level the score at 4-4, thanks to Griekspoor's skillful shot that saved a challenging rally.
The match evolved into a fierce contest between the neighboring nations, culminating in a tiebreak after both teams exchanged three consecutive breaks in the final moments.
As the score reached 5-5, a technical glitch caused the screens and speakers to prematurely announce a set point, briefly interrupting the match. Ultimately, Krawietz and Puetz secured victory in the tiebreak, eliminating the home favorites in their first match of the tournament.
