Griezmann retires from international football after 137 appearances

Griezmann made his first appearance for the French national team over ten years ago at the age of 22 during a friendly match against the Netherlands, ultimately accumulating a total of 137 caps.

Throughout his professional career, which has been spent entirely in Spain, Griezmann has achieved significant success, including winning the World Cup and the Nations League with France.

He was also a standout player at the 2016 European Championship, where he finished as the tournament's top scorer with six goals, despite France's loss to Portugal in the final.

In terms of international appearances, only two players have surpassed Griezmann: Olivier Giroud, who has the same number of caps and has also recently announced his retirement, and Lilian Thuram (142) and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (145), who have both played more matches for the national team. Notably, Griezmann was the only active player among the top ten in terms of appearances for Les Bleus.

With 44 goals, Griezmann ranks fourth on France's all-time scoring list, trailing only captain Kylian Mbappe (48), Thierry Henry (51), and Giroud (57).

Griezmann will now dedicate his efforts solely to club football, where he remains contracted with Atletico Madrid until mid-2026.
