Griezmann scores 200th Goal as Atletico Madrid thrash Eintracht Frankfurt

Atlético Madrid bounced back from their painful late collapse against Liverpool in style, dismantling Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in front of a raucous home crowd at the Civitas Metropolitano. With Diego Simeone serving a touchline ban, his side delivered a statement Champions League performance – and Antoine Griezmann made history by netting his 200th goal in Atleti colors.
The result marked Atlético’s 10th win in their last 11 home Champions League matches, reinforcing their status as one of Europe’s toughest teams to beat in front of their own fans.
Raspadori Sets the Tone
The match promised goals after both teams’ high-scoring domestic wins last weekend – Atlético’s stunning 5-2 derby triumph over Real Madrid and Frankfurt’s chaotic 6-4 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. And it didn’t take long for the fireworks to begin.

Summer signing Giacomo Raspadori was heavily involved from the outset. His early cross, deflected into the path of Giuliano Simeone, eventually came back to him via a defensive error from Arthur Theate, and the Italian striker made no mistake to open the scoring.
Raspadori continued to torment Frankfurt’s backline, displaying superb close control to carve open another chance that Simeone failed to capitalize on.
Le Normand and Griezmann take control
The pressure finally told again in the 33rd minute. Rodrigo de Paul’s corner caused chaos in the box, and while Griezmann couldn’t get a clean strike away, centre-back Robin Le Normand pounced on the loose ball to smash home Atlético’s second.
Just before the break, Álvarez sliced through Frankfurt’s midfield with a brilliant run before cutting the ball back for Griezmann, who calmly slotted in his landmark goal – his 200th strike in red and white – to send the Metropolitano into celebration.
Frankfurt’s brief fightback
To their credit, Frankfurt came out swinging after halftime. Jonathan Burkardt tested Jan Oblak before finally pulling one back with his fifth goal in four games, finishing off a fine move involving Ansgar Knauff.
But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived.
Simeone Jr. seals It, Alvarez finishes the job
Atlético quickly regained control, and Giuliano Simeone made sure his father – watching anxiously from the stands – had little to worry about. Rising highest from an Álvarez corner, the youngster powered in a header off the post to restore the three-goal cushion.
In the closing stages, Álvarez himself got on the scoresheet, calmly converting from the penalty spot after Aurèle Amenda handled in the area.

The emphatic 5-1 victory not only gave Atlético their first points of the Champions League league phase but also underlined their attacking depth. With Griezmann reaching a historic milestone, Raspadori impressing, and Álvarez running the midfield, Atleti once again look like serious contenders in Europe.
For Frankfurt, it was a night to forget. Despite showing flashes of attacking intent, their defensive frailties were brutally exposed, and they have now been involved in matches featuring four or more goals in each of their last 10 outings – an exciting but dangerous trend.
Both sides now sit on one win and one defeat in the group stage, but it is Atlético who leave the evening with renewed belief and momentum.
