Guardiola backs youngster Khusanov despite early error in Manchester City's 3-1 win over Chelsea

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shown faith in 20-year-old defender Abdukodir Khusanov despite the Uzbek player’s shaky Premier League debut, which saw him give away an early goal in their 3-1 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

Khusanov, recently signed from French club Lens, endured a tough introduction to English football. In just the third minute, his misjudged header allowed Chelsea to open the scoring. The defender, appearing overwhelmed at times, faced a stern test against Chelsea’s attacking lineup featuring Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Jadon Sancho.

However, Guardiola remained optimistic about Khusanov’s potential:
"It is not easy for him. He trains once, and then to play against Jackson and Cole and Madueke and Sancho, it is a process when you buy a player this young. He will learn," Guardiola said.

The Spanish tactician acknowledged the challenges City have faced this season, including injuries to key players and an increasingly competitive Premier League landscape.
"We struggled lately and it has been a tough, tough season. Most players have been here eight or nine years and I am not going to change my opinion in two months," he explained.

Guardiola urged his team to rise to the occasion:
"We have to realise it is not enough, what we are doing—I ask them to step up, and we did it. We created enough chances to score goals, and in the end, I am really pleased for the victory."

In addition to Khusanov, Guardiola handed a debut to 25-year-old Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush, who joined City from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the week. Marmoush made an immediate impact, showcasing excellent movement and linking up well with his new teammates.

"Really good. That connection with other players and incredible movement. It is the first game, and he deals with the change and he makes unbelievable movements," Guardiola praised.

Despite the ups and downs, Guardiola’s Manchester City secured a crucial win, and the manager’s faith in his new signings indicates a long-term vision. Fans will be eager to see how Khusanov and Marmoush continue to develop under Guardiola’s guidance.
