Halep expresses concern over career after doping ban

In September, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) imposed a four-year ban on the former Wimbledon and French Open champion due to two separate anti-doping rule violations.
The ban came after Simona Halep had been provisionally suspended since October 2022 for testing positive for the banned blood-booster roxadustat at the U.S. Open the previous year. In response to the ITIA's decision, Halep expressed her intention to appeal the ban to the highest court in sports.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced that the hearing for Halep's appeal will take place from February 7th to February 9th. When asked about the potential consequences of a failed appeal, Halep acknowledged that a four-year ban would greatly impact her career, especially considering her age.
She emphasized the significance of tennis in her life, having dedicated herself to the sport for 25 years, and expressed concern about how she would handle such a lengthy suspension.
Halep stated that if her appeal is unsuccessful, it would likely mark the end of her career, which she finds devastating since she believes she is innocent and not at fault for the violations.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding her future, Halep shared her hope of participating in the Paris Olympics next year if her appeal is successful.
She acknowledged the slim chances of this happening but expressed her dream of playing in Paris, a city that holds special significance for her.
Halep reminisced about winning Roland Garros as a junior player and expressed her desire to return to the court, emphasizing that it is where she belongs and where she feels the urge to compete once again.
