Hamilton ends F1 podium drought with third place finish in Spain

Lewis Hamilton celebrated a triumphant return to the Formula One podium with Mercedes on Sunday.

However, he mentioned how the team's progress and his best performance of the season do not cause any remorse regarding his forthcoming move to Ferrari. The seven-time world champion finished in the third place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, with George Russell following in the fourth place.

By securing his initial podium since October last year, the Briton extended his career record to an astounding 198 podiums.

According to Hamilton, the weekend marked his best performance this year and in a lengthy while. Describing the joy of such fierce battles on track, he expressed his contentment regarding his return.

Notable overtakes included triumphing over the likes of Carlos Sainz and teammate George Russell. Team principal Toto Wolff deemed it satisfying to see Hamilton experience such a stellar weekend after he was vilified in an anonymous email earlier this month.

Noting the strategies working in Hamilton's favor, Wolff remarked on being pleased to witness the driver finally receiving a favorable outcome.

Despite Ferrari's recent struggles, Hamilton expressed unwavering confidence in his decision to relocate to the scuderia for the next season. Acknowledging their previous accomplishments, Hamilton revealed his refusal to doubt the validity of his move.

Last year's race at Barcelona showcased Mercedes' speed with Hamilton securing the second spot.

After Russell seized his inaugural podium of the 2024 season in Canada, the Briton lamented the missed opportunities on securing third place post starting from the pole position.
