Heidenheim 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen: League leaders continue unbeaten run at Heidenheim

Amine Adli contributed with a goal and an assist, further strengthening Bayer Leverkusen's position at the summit of the Bundesliga standings. Their 2-1 victory over Heidenheim at Voith-Arena not only extended their unbeaten streak to 32 matches but also matched Bayern Munich's historic German record. This achievement has propelled them to a provisional eight-point lead in the league.

Leverkusen, despite leading the Bundesliga table before the weekend clash, faced a Heidenheim team that has consistently shown little regard for reputation this season.

The hosts' resilience was evident as they managed to keep the visitors at bay until the final moments of the first half when Jeremie Frimpong scored from Adli's precise pass.

This goal, Frimpong's 19th contribution of the half, gave Xabi Alonso's team an arguably undeserved lead at halftime.

Frimpong continued to be Leverkusen's most potent attacking threat early in the second half, coming close to scoring with a long-range effort that narrowly missed the target.

Despite Heidenheim's defensive efforts, they also tested goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, with Benedikt Gimber's strike well saved by the Finnish shot-stopper.

Florian Wirtz also had a chance to extend Leverkusen's lead but was denied by the crossbar.
However, Leverkusen's relentless nature was on display as Adli scored the decisive second goal with 10 minutes remaining, securing the victory for the away side.

Heidenheim managed to pull one back through Tim Kleindienst, but it was only a consolation as Leverkusen held on for the win.

Leverkusen is edging closer to securing the long-awaited maiden Meisterschale, moving further away from their reputation as the 'eternal bridesmaid' of German football.

They will end tonight with an eight-point lead at the top of the table. Heidenheim, on the other hand, can be pleased with their performance as they maintain a solid mid-table position in their debut season in Germany's top flight.
