Holger Rune completes thrilling five-set comeback victory at Australian Open to set up Sinner clash

Holger Rune (21) pulled off an incredible comeback in his third-round match against Miomir Kecmanovic (25), rallying from the brink of defeat to secure a spot in the fourth round of the Australian Open, where he will face World No. 1 Jannik Sinner (23).

Rune appeared to be out of the match as he struggled physically, trailing 2-1 in sets and down 2-4 in the fourth. However, the Danish tennis star dug deep, overcoming fatigue to claim a dramatic 6-7, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory after more than three hours of intense play.

This win sets up a highly anticipated clash with Sinner, who has been widely regarded as Rune's biggest challenge in the tournament. The two have met four times before, with each player winning two of their encounters.

Rune reflected on the grueling match, admitting that his physical condition was far from ideal in the final two sets. "It was pure willpower. I really didn't feel well in my body. My legs hurt from the start of the fourth set, and at the end of the match, it was pure willpower," he said.

"I gave everything I had in me. It wasn't the wildest legwork I had today, but I gave it what I had," Rune added, revealing that cramps were a major issue during the fourth set.
